Shadows of Hiroshima
The shadows are caused by the atomic blast. When the heat of the bomb hit a person that was standing close to a wall, the person’s body “protected” the wall. The enormous heat of the bomb made it to the other parts of the wall or curb but the body stopped some of the heat and it created what appears to be a shadow. (Source)
In Japan, radiation creates monsters (Godzilla) and in America radiation creates superheroes
Shockingly, it’s almost like Japan and America have very different narratives surrounding nuclear fallout. Now, if we all think very very hard, maybe someone could think of why this might be.
Aokigahara, Japan - Suicide Forest
After Mt Fuji erupted in the year 864 a forest grew over the dried lava and was then names “Jukai” or “Sea of Trees”. As seen from half way up Mt Fuji, the trees stay green all year round resembling the ocean.
Aokigahara is the most popular location of suicides in Japan, third after San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. In the period leading up to 1988, over 100 dead bodies have been found there, the rates have been increasing over the years. The most common methods are hanging and drug over-doses.
